Three SEC quarterbacks were among the 18 semifinalists for the Davey O’Brien Award announced Thursday, but only one is still in the running to win it.

Alabama’s Jalen Hurts, Ole Miss’ Chad Kelly and Texas A&M Trevor Knight’s Trevor Knight all made the cut, but the latter two are ineligible to receive the honor after suffering season-ending injuries.

Per the news release announcing the semifinalists, “Foundation guidelines allow for an injured player to be honored as a semifinalist and the quarterback with the next highest vote total also included.” The Davy O’Brien Award is oldest national quarterback accolade in the country.

Knight had thrown for 1,911 yards and accumulated 23 total touchdowns in his senior season. Kelly, a senior as well, led the SEC in passing with 2,758 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Hurts has racked up 1,656 yards and 11 touchdowns through the air while rushing for 635 yards and 10 touchdowns as just a true freshman.
