The Mets announced Sunday that it would be Tim Tebow’s last day with the Columbia Fireflies.

He will be promoted to the Class A-Advanced St. Lucie Mets after Sunday night’s game.

With Columbia being an SEC city, it obviously felt close to home for Tebow and something he could identify with during his time in South Carolina. Since Tebow will jet right after Sunday night’s game, the media caught up with him before, where he reflected upon his time.

Tebow was asked about the impact that he made on the city and the fans, and naturally, he wanted to make sure the fans knew they gave him something, too.

“Well, the goal is to when you’re somewhere hopefully you leave it a little better than you found it,” Tebow said, via The State. “Hopefully, that was the case here, but also the people here had a great impact on me as well. It’s a great town, a great city. A lot of really awesome people. I know they had a really big impact on me, too. So, I’m very grateful.”

He was quick to jokingly add, “But I’m still not a Gamecock fan.”

During Tebow’s four-year career at Florida, he blistered the Gamecocks, finishing 4-0 and a combined 13 TDs. One of the best games of his entire career came in Columbia in 2007 when Tebow finished with a combined seven TDs.

Tebow has played in 63 games for the Fireflies this season, hitting just .222, with three home runs and 23 RBIs. Those type of numbers won’t get him to the big leagues, but nonetheless, Tebow is moving up in the Mets’ organization.

His first game with the St. Lucie Mets will be on June 27.
