Tim Tebow’s 2018 minor league baseball season ended in late July due to surgery on his hamate bone, but he’s expected to return to the Mets in 2019, per NewsDay’s Tim Healey.

2019 would be Tebow’s third professional season playing baseball, and he’s given no indication to the Mets that he won’t return for another year.

Tebow was starting to get hot when his season-ending injury happened. In June and July, he was hitting .317 and slugging .429 in Double-A Binghamton. Sure, he strikes out too much, but his numbers certainly haven’t been terrible. 2018 was his best season thus far, too.

“I’m sure that’s his last impression of himself,” assistant general manager John Ricco said. “I’d be surprised if he didn’t want to continue.”

Assuming Tebow will return, he could start the 2019 season in Triple-A Syracuse, and he could have a huge opportunity to make it to the big leagues next season.

Tebow, of course, is currently an analyst on the SEC Network’s “SEC Nation,” and this week the crew will be in Tuscaloosa for the Texas A&M-Alabama game.
