If you thought the mock draft season was over, you were wrong. Less than a week after the opening night of the 2017 NFL Draft, ESPN NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay has unveiled his first 2018 mock draft. It goes without saying some Alabama players were featured, including several players that have yet to enter the Crimson Tide lineup as starters.

While the top of McShay’s draft board is quarterback heavy, the SEC enters the equation at the five spot. In total, McShay has nine total SEC players being selected — five from Alabama, two from LSU, and one from Florida and Texas A&M.

Here’s every SEC player included in McShay’s initial 2018 mock draft:

  • No. 5,  Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama – Minnesota Vikings
  • No. 10, Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama – Miami Dolphins
  • No. 11, Arden Key, LB, LSU – Tamp Bay Buccaneers
  • No. 13, Christian Kirk, WR, Texas A&M – Washington Redskins
  • No. 14, Bo Scarbrough, RB, Alabama – Philadelphia Eagles
  • No. 18, Da’Shawn Hand, DL, Alabama – Los Angeles Chargers
  • No. 21, Antonio Callaway, WR, Florida – Baltimore Ravens
  • No. 27, Derrius Guice, RB, LSU – Oakland Raiders
  • No. 32, Da’Ron Payne, DL, Alabama – New England Patriots

At this point, it’s fair to call Alabama’s program a draft pick machine but it’s odd to see Scarbrough, who hasn’t been able to stay on the field for an entire season since high school, be projected as a first-rounder. Would an NFL team really take a chance on an injury-prone running back in the first round?
