Urban Meyer addresses possibility of coaching college football again

Urban Meyer established himself as one of college football’s most successful coaches by winning 3 national championships at Florida and Ohio State. More than 4 years after coaching his last CFB game, Meyer says he isn’t interested in coaching again.
Meyer was asked about coaching again when he appeared at the Knoxville Quarterback Club in Tennessee on Monday. He told the club he has “no desire” to return to the sidelines, per Mike Wilson of the Knoxville News Sentinel.
Meyer is currently an analyst for FOX Sports. While he stays busy during the football season, he enjoys having more free time than he did as a coach.
“I am good,” Meyer said Monday, per Wilson. “I never really took a day off. People, when I say that, they scratch their head. I am like I never took a day off. I had some health stuff go on. I became addicted to sleeping pills. I was just a maniac worker. … So no. No desire.”
Meyer last coached in 2021 with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was fired before completing his first season amid on- and off-the-field issues. Jacksonville was 2-11 at the time of Meyer’s firing.
The Jaguars’ on-field struggles under Meyer have been brushed off by college football fans. Meyer, 59, is 187-32 as a college football head coach. With that success, he has been linked to multiple high-profile openings since he left Ohio State following the 2018 season, including Texas and Notre Dame.
Michigan State is searching for a new head coach after firing Mel Tucker. Earlier this month, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic and FOX Sports stated there was “no truth” to reports linking Meyer to the MSU opening.
About the “reports” linking Urban Meyer to the Michigan State HC job… I just checked with him. There is zero truth to it with him being a candidate for it. He has no interest in that, and is happy with what he’s doing now at Fox Sports.

Meyer’s lack of “desire” to coach again likely won’t stop him from being linked to open jobs. We’ll see if he changes his mind about returning to the sidelines.
