Rivals during the season, friends and co-camp counselors during the offseason. That’s the mutual relationship between SEC quarterbacks Jacob Eason and Shea Patterson along with UCLA’s Josh Rosen and Louisville’s reigning Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson. The four college quarterbacks all recently worked Steve Clarkson’s quarterback retreat in San Diego, which featured campers ranging from third grade to 12th grade.

The star college quarterbacks understand that their presence at the camp was all about the kids, as it wasn’t that long ago they were the campers and not the counselors. The Ole Miss quarterback spoke about the bond he and his fellow counselors have formed over the years working and participating in such camps.

“We grew up together through the (high school recruiting/quarterback camp) process. Ever since we were in high school we’ve been in camps together, so we all have good relationships,” Patterson said during the camp.

Georgia’s quarterback also discussed the close-knit relationship between the quarterbacks.

“We are all out here having fun, having a good time, working a little bit, just enjoying ourselves,” Eason said. “Fans see it as we are rivals, that we don’t talk much but we are talking all the time. We all think highly of each other, we are all there for each other.”

The camp wasn’t all fun and games though, as the quarterbacks participated in a long distance throw. While not all the throws were shown, Eason had the longest pass in the video. He tossed it 68 yards. (His throw drew an audible reaction in the video at the 1:46 mark)

Eason also discussed all his offseason work, expressing his belief that it will pay off in the coming season.

“It’s a lot of work, but it’s definitely worth it,” Eason continued. “I think it’s going to pay off this season.”
