This is definitely the worst targeting call you will see this season, maybe ever.

The introduction of targeting has led to a number of controversial decisions, but this play simply looks like a terrible call by the officiating crew.

The call was made in Saturday’s Memphis-SMU game. Memphis was returning a kick when one Memphis player tried to block the SMU kicker. The block was made up under the shoulder pads, and no contact to the head or neck area is visible in the video. The kicker also appeared to be attempting to make a play and did not look to be defenseless when the block occurred.

It was shared that replay upheld the call of targeting which means the guilty player is ejected for the remainder of the game.
