Mike Leach is one of the most popular coaches in college football because of his quirky personality. But his legendary status may have grown Saturday night when he took a fake mustache in stride during a live interview.

The Washington State coach was asked about one of his best players, QB Gardner Minshew, and his mustache, which is possibly the most popular facial hair around Pullman, Washington.

After the Cougars won 31-7 at Colorado, Leach was asked about “Minshew mania” and the “mustache sensation” sweeping the Cougar fan base. That question came after Minshew was 35-for-58 for 335 yards and two touchdowns, with six rushes for 26 yards and another TD.

“I don’t know, I don’t think he even had a mustache when I recruited him, I don’t recall,” Leach said. “And he’s got more than a mustache, too. I don’t know why everybody only notices his. A lot of these kids have mustaches, anyway. … Now I do, too, all right.”
