WATCH: Northern Arizona's quarterback ejected for targeting (yes, really)
When you think of targeting, you usually think of defensive backs and wide receivers, as well as special-teams players, getting flagged for throwing crunching blocks on opponents.
However, during the Northern Arizona-Montana game on Saturday, NAU QB Case Cookus was flagged for the penalty.
As you can see below, the quarterback was ejected for a hit he delivered on a reverse play, and was none too happy about the call:
We call that a good block where we are from… 😑 pic.twitter.com/KtdNHQ2jka

Cookus wasn’t the only one upset with his ejection, as the team’s Twitter account also felt the call was silly:
QB Case Cookus has been ejected from the game due to targeting on a block down field, because football. Stone Smartt is now in at QB.

Cookus made sure to let the Montana crowd hear about it as he left the field, taunting fans on his way back to the locker room:
Cookus leaves taunting entire crowd. Never heard so many boos from the crowd in this stadium

Northern Arizona ended up losing the game 17-15, and probably could have used Cookus down the stretch.
He’ll have to tone down his crunching blocks next week if he wants to stay in the game for four quarters.
