Like church on Sunday, recruiting never ends. It must be lived every day.

While the rest of us have barely closed the book on the 2019 cycle and haven’t thought a second about the Class of 2020, college football coaches have long since formed their wish lists, subject to change and poaching, always.

The SEC dominated the 2019 cycle. It had 4 of the 5 top teams, led by No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Georgia. The league signed 51 of the Top 100 prospects.

How is 2020 shaping up? Let’s take a look.

First, a quick snapshot: 31 of the Top 100 prospects have committed. Of the 69 who have not, however, 29 received a 100 percent crystal ball prediction from 247Sports.com. So 60 percent of the Top 100 has committed or, analysts believe, are headed to a specific school.

Eight of the 34 current 5-stars (these grades will change) have committed, and 7 more have a 100 percent crystal ball prediction.

ACC

Total commitments in Top 100: 5

Skinny: Clemson finished No. 10 overall in the 2019 recruiting rankings, but was No. 1 in the ACC. Florida State, at No. 16, was the only other program in the Top 20. The 2020 class is shaping up to be more of the same. No league has fewer commitments or crystal ball predictions among the Top 100 than the ACC. That spells bad news for teams trying to catch Clemson — or other Power 5 programs hoping somebody can knock off the Tigers and end the ACC’s run of 5 consecutive Playoff spots.

Skinny: How long will Ohio State stay down? That’s probably the league’s biggest recruiting storyline in the 2020 class. It’s early, but it appears order it being restored in Columbus. The Buckeyes, who fell to No. 14 in the 2019 class, have the B1G’s lone commitment and lone 100 percent prediction among 5-stars. They’re leading the race for 2 more.

Big 12

Skinny: If you like offense, Oklahoma is the place to be. The Sooners loaded up on receivers (and added a 5-star QB) in 2019. In the 2020 class, the have a commitment from 5-star RB Jase McClellan. He’s from suburban Fort Worth, Texas, so the battle to land his signature could reach SEC levels of interest.

Pac-12

Skinny: Oregon was the only Pac-12 team to finish in the Top 15 in the 2019 recruiting rankings, but the league is off to a nice start in 2020. USC, in particular. The Trojans are considered a lock to land the No. 3 player in the class, linebacker Justin Flowe, and have a commitment from No. 28 Bryce Young, the top-ranked dual-threat QB in the country. Both are California kids. That’s noteworthy because the Trojans only signed 2 of the Top 10 prospects from California in 2019.

The battle to watch out West: pro-style QB D.J. Uiagalelei. He’s the No. 1-ranked QB in the class. Alabama, Georgia and LSU made his final seven, along with Clemson, Oklahoma and Oregon.

SEC

Total commitments in Top 100: 14

Total 100 percent crystal ball predictions: 14

5-star commitments: 4

5-star 100 percent crystal ball predictions: 4

Skinny: The reign continues. The SEC has almost half of the Top 100 commitments and is viewed as a lock to grab 14 more.

The race for running backs in Texas will be spectacular to watch. We already mentioned McClellan. Zachary Evans, out of Houston, is the top-ranked RB in the class and No. 2 player overall. Texas A&M and Texas are locked in on him, but rest assured others will join the race.

LSU, trying to retain its DBU crown, went to California and has a commitment from 5-star Elias Ricks, the No. 1 corner in the country.

Alabama again went into the Northern Virginia/D.C./Maryland area to grab a defensive star. This time it’s 5-star Chris Braswell, the No. 1-ranked WDE in the country out of Baltimore. Just down the road in Maryland sits the No. 1 recruit in the country: SDE Bryan Bresee.
