Here’s our weekly look at the SEC quarterbacks with most difficult assignments on Saturday.

Sean White, Auburn

Opponent: Mississippi State

Following Jeremy Johnson’s six interceptions in 72 pass attempts, White steps into the starting role for the Tigers — a team in search of a spark but still with plenty for which to play.

The redshirt freshman will be taking the first snaps of his collegiate career against a Mississippi State team equally in need of a conference win after falling to LSU in its SEC opener, 21-19. The Bulldogs have a pair of high-caliber cornerbacks in Will Redmond and Taveze Calhoun, and though they were hurt by big plays through the air in 2014, they also intercepted 16 passes while allowing just 17 passing touchdowns.

It’s unclear how the Tigers offense will look with White under center. He came to Auburn as four-star pro-style quarterback and operated a pass-heavy, no-huddle offense at University High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Regardless of the amount of responsibility placed on his shoulders, he’ll be the man with 90,000 sets of eyes upon him Saturday as the Tigers try to turn around a once-promising season.

Joshua Dobbs, Tennessee

Opponent: at Florida

For whatever struggles the Gators are having offensively, the defense has looked good through three games. No surprise there. Florida was fifth in the conference in total defense last year, and with Vernon Hargreaves III leading one of the nation’s best secondaries, the Gators could be even better on that side of the ball this year.

The Vols bounced back from a disappointing late-game meltdown against Oklahoma with a 55-10 win over Western Carolina last week, but the degree of difficulty will be cranked up a few notches when they visit the Swamp on Saturday.

If Tennessee is going to break its 10-game losing streak against Florida, Dobbs will need to be at his best. The junior has operated smoothly in the Vols’ wins this season, but was just 13 of 31 for 125 yards with a touchdown and an interception against Oklahoma.

Patrick Towles, Kentucky

Opponent: No. 25 Missouri

Coming off of an 8-for-24 outing that featured two interceptions and no touchdowns, facing the Missouri defense is a less-than-ideal scenario. But that’s the assignment Towles and the Wildcats draw this weekend.

The Tigers lead the SEC in passing yards allowed (112 per game) and total defense through three games. It should be noted those games were against relative lightweights, Southeast Missouri State, Arkansas State and Connecticut, but Missouri’s track record says the strong defensive numbers are more than the product of a manageable schedule.

After making strides as a sophomore last season, Towles has been hit or miss through three games in 2015. He completed 21 of 29 in the Wildcats’ win over South Carolina, but connected on fewer than half his passes in the season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette. For the year, he’s thrown three touchdowns and four interceptions.
