Are we at the end of the turnover prop era? Well, in Tallahassee, that’s a yes.

Florida State coach Willie Taggart said Tuesday on CBS Sports HQ’s Kannell and Bell that the turnover backpack is retired.

“You are just going to see us play football,” Taggart said, according to Noles 247. “You are not going to see a backpack, anything, you are going to see us play football and have fun playing the game with each other and having fun making plays. I think that is what you are going to see out of our guys.

“That was something that our guys wanted to do and they enjoyed doing it. This is the 2019 team and guys want to do things different, they want to be different and expect to be different.”

Members of the FSU defense donned the backpack on the sideline last season after they made a fumble recovery or interception. The red bag in question was listed at $495 from Prime Society, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

In recent years, there have been Miami’s “turnover chain,” Georgia’s “savage” shoulder pads, Ole Miss’ wide receiver belt, Virginia Tech’s lunch pail, Tennessee’s trash can and Boise State’s “turnover throne.”

FSU viewed the prop as “securing the bag” but it was largely made fun of on social media by college football fans around the country.

Perhaps the Seminoles’ 5-7 record in 2018, which caused FSU to miss its first bowl game in nearly 40 years played a role in this as well.
