Where each SEC team would stand in the preseason BCS rankings
The BCS may be a thing of the past, but the rankings are still around.
Professor Ken Massey’s rankings system was a big part of the BCS, and those rankings are still around to this day. Plus, they’re pretty high on a number of SEC teams.
As you can see below, a whopping nine SEC teams crack the top 20 of Massey’s rankings heading into the 2019 season:
- No. 2 — Alabama
- No. 3 — Georgia
- No. 4 — LSU
- No. 8 — Florida
- No. 9 — Texas A&M
- No. 10 — Auburn
- No. 11 — Mississippi State
- No. 18 — Mizzou
- No. 19 — Kentucky
- No. 34 — South Carolina
- No. 49 — Vanderbilt
- No. 53 — Tennessee
- No. 58 — Ole Miss
- No. 88 — Arkansas
Of course, that system is no longer used, but it doesn’t mean people won’t see it. The SEC features a number of great squads this year, so it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see a bunch ranked in the top 25 by season’s end.
