Will Mississippi State’s Joe Moorhead or Florida’s Dan Mullen have more success in 2018?

SEC Network analyst and former Vanderbilt QB Jordan Rodgers thinks it’s Mullen. And while Rodgers thinks Moorhead was the best hire in the SEC, he believes Mullen will have more success.

“I think it’s Dan Mullen, and here’s why,” Rodgers said on the SEC Network. “I’ve been so high on Mississippi State, and I think the best hire was Joe Moorhead. But right now at Mississippi State, they’re being judged by wins and losses. They have to beat Alabama or an Auburn.

“At Florida, the expectation is to, yes, win games, but Jim McElwain won games. He got them to SEC Championships. What did he not do? He did not have an offense. So, I believe the success at Florida will be measured in their ability to score points and develop on the offensive side of the ball. And Dan Mullen will do that.”

Moorhead inherited a loaded squad when Mullen moved on to Florida. He has a veteran QB, talented skill position players and a loaded defensive line. That bodes well for quick success, but Rodgers’ biggest holdup is the SEC West. Rodgers believes playing Alabama, Auburn and LSU, among others, won’t show up well in the wins and losses.

The Florida program, on the other hand, has no where to go but up. Following a lifeless program under McElwain, Mullen, according to Rodgers, will reenergize the offense and score points. After all, that’s what Florida fans want, right?
