The debate over whether Georgia (11-2) belonged in the College Football Playoff, landing a spot over a Power 5 conference champion or undefeated Notre Dame led to more media discussion about the possibility of expanding the CFP from four teams to six, eight or even more teams.

As much as fans of UCF and others (this time around, Georgia and Ohio State) would like to see more teams have the shot to play for the national championship, they shouldn’t hold their breath.

ESPN senior writer Heather Dinich asked CFP executive director Bill Hancock whether Saturday’s debate and Sunday’s results had led to any talk of expansion.

“There’s been no talk about a format change in the meetings of the commissioners and the presidents who manage the CFP,” Hancock told ESPN. Dinich added that Hancock doesn’t expect any changes to the committee’s protocol.

He also revealed that the committee seeks to create the debate that dominated traditional and social media platforms this weekend (Georgia vs. Oklahoma vs. Ohio State).

“This was the kind of debate we wanted when we created the playoff,” Hancock said. “We wanted diverse opinions, we wanted people who wouldn’t hesitate to state their feelings, and man, we got it.”
