Will Muschamp isn’t going anywhere before the end of the season, and maybe not even then. David Cloninger and Andy Shain of The Post and Courier reported that South Carolina has “no immediate plans” to fire its head coach, who will be “assessed at the end of the season.”

Some Gamecocks fans will disagree with that decision. They’re not happy with the way the team has been playing.

However, Joe Rice, one of South Carolina’s largest donors whose name is on the athletics center, thinks it’s the right one.

“These blowouts are disappointing. But can you judge his tenure on these last few games in a COVID situation when you got one of the toughest schedules in the country?” Rice said, per Cloninger and Shain. “I’m certainly not ready to give up on coach Muschamp. I think he deserves the benefit of the rest of the season.

“But we have to make improvement.”

Another donor, who remained anonymous, didn’t have quite the same patience as Rice.

“It’s so hard to explain, because I love the Gamecocks so much, but to see that product on the field now is embarrassing,” the anonymous donor said, according to Cloninger and Shain. “I honestly don’t think I’ll ever go back as long as Ray [Tanner] is the AD and Will is the coach.”

South Carolina was 2-2 after notching back-to-back wins over Vanderbilt and Auburn last month, but it’s now lost two consecutive games to LSU and Texas A&M by a combined score of 100-27. The Gamecocks lost, 48-3, to the Aggies this past Saturday.

Now, South Carolina will look to get back on track when it travels to Ole Miss on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff on SEC Network.
