South Carolina QB Connor Mitch has elected to transfer per a school press release.

“Connor and I spoke today,” said coach Will Muschamp. “Connor has the opportunity to graduate from South Carolina this summer and will look to continue his playing career at another university in the fall. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

Mitch started two games for the Gamecocks before being sidelined with season-ending injuries.

“I have enjoyed my time at South Carolina and will graduate later this summer,” said Mitch. “I believe it’s in my best interest to continue my playing career at another school. I’d like to thank all the Gamecock fans for their support during my time in Columbia.”

Mitch will have two years of eligibility as a graduate transfer.

The Raleigh, N.C. quarterback joined the Gamecocks in 2013, choosing the Garnet and Black over Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Tennessee and Vanderbilt among other offers. He redshirted in 2013 and saw limited action in ’14 (2-of-6 passing).

As a sophomore, he went 9-of-22 for 122 yards and a touchdown pass in South Carolina’s season-opening 17-13 win over North Carolina last fall. He was 4-of-7 and had a rushing touchdown against Kentucky before leaving the game with a season-ending shoulder injury. Rehab from the shoulder injury was complicated by a previous hip injury that resulted in significant loss of weight and strength.

Mitch was not expected to be the starting quarterback for the Gamecocks in 2016. Post-spring evaluations have Perry Orth and Brandon McIlwain as the frontrunners, with newly reclassified freshman Jake Bentley also having a shot.
