Connor Shaw has officially returned to Columbia.

That’s the good news. The bad news? Marcus Lattimore has stepped down as South Carolina’s Director of Player Development after two years on the job to pursue other opportunities.

With Lattimore deciding to step away from the Gamecocks, for the time being, Will Muschamp couldn’t have found a much better replacement than Shaw. The program’s all-time winningest quarterback has been named South Carolina’s new Director of Player Development.

Muschamp is scheduled to hold a press conference on Wednesday that will be attended by both Shaw and Lattimore to introduce the program’s new Director of Player Development and thank Lattimore for his service over the previous two years.

“When Marcus and I talked before he was hired, he told me about the long-range plans he had for his personal and professional goals,” Muschamp said in a release. “I knew one day Marcus would consider leaving his current role and I always had Connor Shaw in my mind as someone who could fill that position.

“I am confident that Connor will do a great job for our student-athletes and the entire football program. He’s smart, a winner, cares about developing young people and loves Carolina. No doubt, he’ll be a tremendous asset for our program.”

South Carolina’s scheduled press conference is set for Jan. 15, at 11 am ET.
