Dawn Staley has addressed what began as an idea for her to return to her hometown of Philadelphia.

At a pre-Final Four press conference on Thursday, the South Carolina women’s basketball coach was asked for her interest in the Temple men’s basketball coaching job.

“No thoughts. I don’t want to coach in the men’s game,” said Staley, who came to South Carolina from Temple, where she coached the women’s team from 2000-08.

The idea was believed to be first introduced by Seth Davis of CBS and The Athletic, who tweeted last week: “If Temple really wants to win basketball games it should turn the keys over to a Philly native who is a proven winner. Her name is Dawn Staley. Easy choice.”

The issue was moot since Temple announced it hired Adam Fisher earlier this week.

Staley is widely believed to be one of the best coaches in basketball, regardless of men or women’s programs. South Carolina is the defending national champion, and is a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Gamecocks will face Iowa at 9 p.m. ET on Friday on ESPN.
