Few college players have ever possessed the same destructive power that Jadeveon Clowney displayed at South Carolina. Injuries have hampered the defensive end’s young NFL career, but those appear to be behind him.

In his third season with the Houston Texans, the 23-year-old defender played in 14 games and recorded six sacks and 40 tackles, both career-high totals, while earning his first trip to the Pro Bowl. Those aren’t earth-shattering numbers by any measure, but Clowney’s potential remains extremely high. In fact, Texans defensive line coach Anthony Weaver made some attention-grabbing statements while praising his defensive end.

“I told him he can be a Hall of Famer,” Weaver revealed to the Houston Chronicle. “Now, there’s a number of things that have to happen. You’ve got to stay healthy, you have to be consistent and persistent. But he has all the qualities and athletic attributes in order to do that.”

When he was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Clowney seemed like a player who was destined to be enshrined in Canton. Although he’s gotten off to a slow start, that goal is still very much in reach.
