Shane Beamer and South Carolina made a splash this offseason with several transfers, most notably former Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler. So does that mean the Gamecocks are trying to become a transfer portal destination?

During a press conference on Monday to discuss new assistant Jody Wright, and other offseason stories, Beamer explained his philosophy.

“I would like to establish this as a destination place for any young man who wants to come here and get an elite education and play football at the highest level college athletics, in the SEC,” Beamer said. “I think the program that we have here and the environment that we’ve created people are seeing that. You can come here and you can have a great experience as a student athlete, period. Whether you’re coming from another college, or you’re coming from the high school ranks.

After Rattler, some of the transfers are former Wake Forest RB Christian Beal-Smith, former N.C. State defensive lineman Terrell Dawkins, former Georgie DB/RB Lovasea Carroll and former Oklahoma TE Austin Stogner.

“In terms of the transfers specifically, I think it all depends on the experience the guys before you had,” Beamer said. “Certainly the guys that we brought in as transfers this (past) year had a great experience, and played meaningful snaps for us.”
