Jake Bentley is known for his emotional behavior on the field and sidelines, and he’s shown that behavior plenty this season.

Bentley has largely struggled in the first two games he’s played against Clemson, and he was asked Tuesday what he learned from those outings. This week, it’s important to harness that when South Carolina travels to Clemson in hopes of snapping a four-game losing streak in the rivalry.

“One thing it comes down to is just composure,” he said. “All across the board just keeping our composure throughout the game. If you get too wrapped up with everything that goes into this game and get bogged down by it, and even during the game, getting too wrapped up in the emotion. I think keeping your composure. I think the team that keeps their composure the best has the best chance to win.”

“… Everyone has to have a great game, and be locked in from the first whistle.”

Bentley explained how he describes what makes the rivalry unique, and how it’s been healthy, for the most part.

“The passion behind it,” he said. “Both sides are passionate about their teams. It’s a day that everyone looks forward to the whole year. It’s just a really great game to be a part of.”

The atmosphere at Clemson isn’t any different than other SEC schools, such as Georgia or Florida.

“The fans have an awesome atmosphere,” he said. “It’s going to be fun to play.”

Asked about balancing motivation with guarding against bulletin-board material for Clemson, Bentley said the Gamecocks ultimately need to go play, regardless of what is said in house.
