John Cohen believes South Carolina’s full body of work is the reason why South Carolina earned a regional host site because the Gamecocks landed 8 wins against the top 8 seeds.

The Auburn athletics director who is also the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee Chair said on ESPN2 that he understood that South Carolina started the season 30-4, but also saw the stumble down the stretch. The Gamecocks are 39-19 and as the No. 15 overall seed will host Campbell (44-13), N.C. State (35-19) and Central Connecticut State (36-23) in the regional.

South Carolina lost 5 of their final 6 SEC series.

“I think you have to look at the full body of work and that’s what our committee did,” Cohen. “You mentioned being 30-4, 8 wins against those top 8 seeds, is pretty good work. So the end of the season is important, it’s something we definitely look at, but the full body of work is something that’s extremely important as well.”
