Will Muschamp and the South Carolina Gamecocks suffered a bad loss at the hands of SEC East rival Georgia on Saturday, setting them back in their quest to win an SEC East title.

Yes, it was a frustrating loss, but most agree that Muschamp still has the program going in the right direction.

However, one caller asked on ESPNU Radio on SiriusXM if the Gamecocks should move on from Muschamp. As you can hear below, that drew the ire of SEC Network analyst (and former Alabama QB) Greg McElroy:

“I’m sorry, I can’t talk right now,” McElroy responds. “I’m putting my resume in on Monster or whatever it is, because I can’t be in this line of industry anymore. If you think Will Muschamp should be released and relieved of his duties after what he’s done with an absolutely abysmal roster the last two years, it’s remarkable. Absolutely remarkable. Like, that is the most short-sighted thing I have ever heard on this program.

“Will Muschamp has achieved more in two seasons than anyone could have ever projected, and that includes people associated with the South Carolina program. Like, it is remarkable what they’ve been able to do in a short period of time. Are they competing for championships now? No. Are they likely to in the next couple of years? Probably not, because Georgia just happens to be in their division.”

Muschamp has indeed built a solid program in Columbia, and with the players he’s recruiting to come there, the Gamecocks should continue to be a team that can win on any given Saturday.
