South Carolina has had a tough transition since the firing of coach Will Muschamp, but interim coach Mike Bobo reported that the Gamecocks had their best practice on Wednesday.

“Obviously it’s difficult,” Bobo said on the SEC coaches media teleconference. “Change is difficult for everyone even for us adults… today was the best practice we’ve had, we are able to go good on good more with players returning.”

Recruiting is one of those fluid issues following a coaching change, but the coaching staff is still interacting with the Gamecock commits.

“We are honoring the guys that are committed to us and are recruiting them and telling them to see who the next coach is… preach patience,” Bobo said. “If there isn’t a guy in here by Dec. 16, we are going to honor the scholarships that were given but you’ll have to ask Ray Tanner about that if a change is made.”

As he continues to recover from a concussion suffered 2 weeks ago against Missouri, Bobo said star WR Shi Smith practiced today, still non-contact, but all signs point to go.

The Gamecocks will have a cold weather game this week at Kentucky, and Bobo will coach in his first game with that kind of weather since his days at Colorado State.
