To our knowledge, Will Muschamp has yet to be officially offered nor accepted the position of head coach at South Carolina.

But that doesn’t mean he isn’t already attempting to assemble a staff on the chance that he does receive the position.

The State’s David Cloninger is reporting that Muschamp has reached out to former Gamecocks RB Marcus Lattimore to be a part of that theoretical staff.

Cloninger writes that the role in which Lattimore would serve on the staff, if he should choose to do so, is still unclear.

He also writes that:

Muschamp also told Lattimore that he has been in contact with USC President Harris Pastides. The source said that Pastides implied to Muschamp that “they’re going to try to get this thing done as soon as possible.”

Muschamp served as the defensive coordinator at Auburn in 2015 after being fired from his post as Florida’s head coach following the 2014 season.

Lattimore is said to be serving as an ambassador for the South Carolina program while finishing his college degree following washing out of the NFL due to injuries sustained as a Gamecock. It is unclear as to whether he’d like to enter the coaching profession, but Cloninger’s source says that if he’s willing, Muschamp wants him.
