Jaycee Horn has just become the latest Gamecock defensive back to make his way to the game’s biggest stage.

The former touted recruit and son of longtime NFL receiver Joe Horn, Jaycee now has bragging rights over his father — who was a fifth-round selection in the 1996 NFL Draft — as the South Carolina defender was just selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Horn was taken No. 8 overall to the Carolina Panthers, as he joins a team that looks to bolster its defense after it traded for QB Sam Darnold this offseason.

Horn was picked as a Second-Team All-SEC selection by the league’s coaches last season after registering 16 tackles, eight passes defended, six pass breakups and two interceptions in seven games. Horn only appeared in seven games as he opted out after Will Muschamp was fired by South Carolina.

Following South Carolina’s 33-20 win over Auburn last season, a game in which Horn intercepted a pair of Bo Nix passes, the Gamecock defensive back was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week.

Horn finished his South Carolina career with 101 tackles, 23 pass breakups and two interceptions.
