One day after signing with new league, former Gamecock Dante Sawyer signs with Redskins
On Monday, it was announced that former South Carolina defensive lineman Dante Sawyer had signed to play for the Birmingham team in the Alliance of American Football, a new spring football league beginning in 2019.
However, it appears Sawyer now has more immediate plans.
On Tuesday, the Washington Redskins announced they signed Sawyer, who played for the Gamecocks from 2014-17.

After not being selected in the 2018 NFL Draft, Sawyer signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as a free agent in April. He was with the Chiefs during rookie minicamps, but he was later released.
Last year at South Carolina, Sawyer had 30 tackles, three sacks and five forced fumbles, playing in 12 games.
