South Carolina (6-6) and South Florida (10-2) are set to clash for the second time in history in the Birmingham Bowl on Dec. 29.

Bulls quarterback Quinton Flowers, a former three-star prospect from Miami, Fl., told reporters on Wednesday that South Carolina coach Will Muschamp was interested in signing him back when he led the program at Florida, but not for his current position.

Flowers wasn’t interested in playing anything but QB and ended up committing to USF.

When asked about it, Muschamp denied it, saying he would have been interested in giving Flowers a shot at quarterback.

Flowers has enjoyed a breakthrough junior season, completing 184-of-299 (61.5 percent) passes for 2,551 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions with an additional 1,425 yards (2nd among FBS QBs behind Lamar Jackson) and 15 scores as one of the best dual-threat players in the nation.

USF enters the postseason with the No. 7 scoring offense in the country at 43.6 points per game.

Considering Muschamp’s Florida offenses finished as the SEC’s 5th, 14th, 12th and 12th passing unit during his tenure, having a guy like Flowers on the roster wouldn’t have been a terrible thing.
