Will Muschamp and South Carolina landed a commitment from in-state defensive back R.J. Roderick Saturday after the Gamecocks’ football camp, according to 247Sports.

The 6-foot, 207-pound prospect is listed as a safety and from Summerville, South Carolina (Cane Bay).

Roderick is an athlete, as he plays quarterback in high school but is projected to play safety for the Gamecocks. He rushed for 1,778 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2016, while adding 613 passing yards. He hasn’t played much defense during his career, but with the Gamecocks adding him as a defensive back, his defensive snaps will surely increase during his senior season.

Roderick is rated as a 3-star prospect, according to Rivals.com, and he became the Gamecocks’ seventh commitment for the class of 2018.
