Frank Martin and Gamecock Nation came breathe a big sigh of relief as Chris Silva has made a decision on his status for 2018 — he’s coming back to Columbia for another season.

The 2018 All-SEC First Team performer declared for the NBA draft but did not hire an agent following the end of South Carolina’s season. After weighing his options carefully, Silva announced on Monday he planned to return to Columbia.

Not only did Silva lead the Gamecocks in both points and rebounds in 2018, he was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year and made the league’s All-Defense team.

Silva released an official statement announcing the news:

“I’m thankful for the experience of going through the draft process. I want to thank all of the teams that gave me the opportunity to workout for their organization. I’m excited to announce that I’m returning to South Carolina for my senior season. I can’t wait to get back on the court with my brothers and continue to work on my game.”

His coach also released a statement:

“Going through the evaluation process was an unbelievable experience for Chris and us. He comes back to a place he loves with some knowledge on some of the things that we have to help him improve on in his efforts to one day fulfill his lifelong dream of playing in the NBA.”
