Heading into Thursday, most assumed D.J. Daniel was a lock to Georgia. All those holding that opinion would have been wrong as the Georgia Military College defensive back picked South Carolina over Georgia during a ceremony at his school on Thursday.

The 6-foot, 180-pound Daniel ranks as the No. 3 junior college cornerback and No. 12 overall JUCO prospect in the nation according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. His “Crystal Ball” reading was 100 percent for Georgia leading up to his recruitment, which should make this news all the much sweeter for Gamecock fans.

The Georgia native registered 26 tackles, five pass breakups and three interceptions last season.

Daniel picked South Carolina over scholarship offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee and, of course, Georgia. Following this news, the Gamecocks now hold commitments from 17 prospects for the 2019 recruiting cycle. Daniel becomes the sixth four-star commitment in the South Carolina class.
