No matter who you root for, all fans can agree that college football is more than just a game.

The athletes are more than just students who go to a university, and the stadiums are more like cathedrals where we go to worship every Saturday.

Not everyone gets to attend “church” however, and in some cases, die-hard fans have never even been.

According to thestate.com, that was the case for 69-year old Gloria Butler, a lifelong Gamecocks fan recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. So you can imagine her reaction when she was surprised with tickets to the upcoming South Carolina-Texas A&M game.

Butler’s daughter, Mandy Power, surprised her with tickets and videoed her reaction. The emotional video has been viewed over 23,000 times.

Butler has been a fan of the Gamecocks for more than 50 years, and even her bedroom is adorned with T-shirts, keychains and other South Carolina gear.

She was diagnosed with Stage III lung cancer in August and was given six months to a year to live. After Power learned of this, she knew she had to do something special for her mom, and it didn’t take her long to find the perfect gift.

Butler was a single mother and often had to work two or three jobs at a time, so going to a game was never really a possibility for her, until now.

Power’s fiancee, Nate Henderson, acquired four tickets for the Texas A&M game and couldn’t wait to give them to Butler, as her birthday is Oct. 10, three days before the game.

They didn’t have many other activities planned other than attending the game, but once the Facebook video went viral, people have reached out to Power to offer to help pay for their handicapped parking at the stadium or a golf cart to help Butler get around at the game.

A GoFundMe page also has been created by a friend of Butler’s to help cover other fun things like a hotel room and a limousine to get her to and from the game.

“This is something I’ve always wanted to do,” Butler told The State. “This is my dream come true, and I’m still thinking it’s a fantasy. I still don’t believe it’s actually happening.”
