The South Carolina Gamecocks got off to a hot start on the recruiting trails, but that momentum had dropped off a bit in recent weeks (Thursday night’s commitment being the exception).

However, on Friday night, the Gamecocks picked up a big-time defensive back, beating out Georgia and Tennessee for his services.

According to The State, 4-star DB Cam Smith committed to the Gamecocks following his high school football game on Friday night:

The senior picked USC over Georgia and Tennessee. He still plans to take all three official visits.

“It’s my home school,” he said after committing. “I’ve been loving it since I was little.”

Coach Will Muschamp welcomed Smith to the class with his classic “#SpursUp!” tweet, as you can see below:

According to the 247Sports composite, Smith is the No. 28 cornerback in the class of 2019 and the No. 2 overall recruit from the state of South Carolina.

The Gamecocks now have 18 players in their 2019 class. Prior to Smith’s commitment, the class ranked No. 17 in the nation and No. 8 in the SEC, per 247Sports.
