National Signing Day 2016 is still more than 10 months away, but the South Carolina Gamecocks are looking far beyond 2016 on the recruiting trail.

The Gamecocks held a Junior Day event on Saturday following the team’s intrasquad scrimmage, and one eighth-grader in attendance was among the players who a received scholarship offer on the day.

Dominick Blaylock, a superstar for his team at Dickerson Middle School in Marietta, Ga., was extended an offer Saturday before even beginning his freshman season at Walton High School. The news was first reported by GoGamecocks.com.

Blaylock is the first player South Carolina has offered a scholarship from the class of 2019. His father is former NBA star Mookie Blaylock, and his twin older brothers Daron and Zack Blaylock play defensive back at Kentucky. Dominick Blaylock was reportedly offered his scholarship as an athlete.

Blaylock’s stepfather, John Woods, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Florida, Alabama and Auburn have also invited Dominick to visit their respective campuses. For now, however, South Carolina represents the first offer the junior high star has received as he prepares to transition to the ninth grade next year.

“It felt pretty great,” Blaylock told the AJC. “I was shocked that when I met the coaches, they went straight to the point with the offer. I had no words. I didn’t know what to say. All I could say was ‘Thanks, coach.'”
