That certainly didn’t take long.

South Carolina is adding a new statue of former women’s basketball standout A’ja Wilson, according to the Post and Courier. During Saturday’s commencement ceremonies, South Carolina President Harris Pastides basically alluded to the fact that Wilson will soon get a statue.

“How many here say that the board, me and others should go ahead and start working on that?,” Pastides asked. “Let me hear it!

“We’re going to go ahead,” he said. “A’ja, we will welcome you back someday to cut the ribbon on that statue. So congratulations!”

That’s quite the honor for the former women’s basketball standout. Wilson may have had the best athletic career in South Carolina history.

Only former Heisman Trophy winner Georgia Rogers has a statue at South Carolina, and it appears that a statue of Wilson will join his.
