South Carolina has reportedly reached a decision on Frank Martin’s future as coach of the Gamecocks’ men’s basketball team as he just finished his 10th season in Columbia.

South Carolina has parted ways with Martin, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported.

The Gamecocks finished 18-13 this season, and lost to Mississippi State in the SEC Tournament to end their season. The Gamecocks lost 3 of their final 4 games this season Martin was 171-147 at South Carolina, a run that will be most remembered for the Final Four run in the 2016-17 season.

However, that was the Gamecocks’ only NCAA Tournament appearance under Martin. And since then, the Gamecocks have had at least 13 losses in each season.

Martin’s win total is the third most in program history.

Martin’s future at South Carolina has been in question since about this time last year.

Last year the team was 6-15 and 4-12 in the SEC, as Alanzo Frink missed the season, and Martin contracted COVID-19 twice.

The school and Martin eventually re-tooled his contract, including a lower buyout, from $3.3 million, to $3 million, per the Charlotte Observer.

“Is that contract extension exactly what I wanted? No,” Martin said after he signed the contract last year. “ … I live my life day to day. I don’t live my life based on my contract.”
