The 2020 football season has been the most unique in history due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the NCAA has granted a free year of eligibility to its student-athletes, giving them the opportunity to return for 2021 if they otherwise were set to complete their careers.

South Carolina senior tight end Nick Muse has opted to take advantage of that opportunity, announcing on his Twitter account on Monday that he would return in 2021 under new head coach Shane Beamer.

A tight end and linebacker in high school, Muse switched exclusively to tight end in college, signing with FCS program William & Mary in 2017. He remained there until transferring to South Carolina prior to the 2019 season, making 17 catches for 158 yards with the Gamecocks that year. In 2020, he totaled 30 catches for 425 yards and 1 touchdown in 9 games—ranking behind Shi Smith for the team lead in receptions and yardage.

He will now get the chance to play under Beamer and hopefully put himself on a path to follow his brother Tanner, a rookie with the Las Vegas Raiders, to the NFL.
