South Carolina will be retiring the ‘Sir Big Spur’ alias sometime between now and kickoff of the Gamecocks’ Week 1 feud with Georgia State on Sept. 3.

According to The State, the name is being changed because of a disagreement between the new and old owners of the mascot. The agreement with the former owners on the Sir Big Spur name has expired and the University has decided to select a new name.

“(The university’s legal team) advised against using an old name ‘Big Spur,’ which was suggested by many fans, due to its close relationship to Sir Big Spur, which is not owned by the University,” USC marketing director Eric Nichols said via, The State.

Let’s hear it, Gamecock fans. What should the new name be?
