The Gamecocks may be losing a veteran on the team’s offensive line as redshirt junior offensive lineman Summie Carlay has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal.

Josh Kendall of The Athletic was the first to report news of Carlay’s decision to enter the transfer database.

While he likely wasn’t going to see time on the field as one of the Gamecocks’ five starting offensive linemen, Carlay did appear in all 12 games for South Carolina last season on special teams. In his three seasons in Columbia, Carlay has made the league’s Academic Honor Roll each season.

As always, it should be noted that just because a player has entered the NCAA transfer portal, that does not mean they won’t return to their team. Entering the database simply allows other programs to contact the player in regards to a potential transfer to another school.

Carlay played at Laurens High School in Laurens, South Carolina. He signed with the Gamecocks in the 2017 recruiting cycle and was rated as the sixth overall prospect from South Carolina in the class, according to Rivals.

If he leaves South Carolina, Carlay will be eligible immediately regardless of where he goes as he would be a graduate transfer.
