South Carolina may not have the best record, but the Gamecocks have had some close losses this season.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney realizes that, and on Tuesday, he praised South Carolina ahead of his team’s matchup against the Gamecocks on Saturday.

Swinney was particularly impressed with South Carolina’s defense, which has played well despite having some key injuries.

“They’re really good up front,” Swinney said during his press conference. “Looking at the totality of their season and the guys we competed against last year, this is a really good football program.”

The Gamecocks are 6-4 and coming off a win over Chattanooga. They have lost to Georgia, Kentucky, Texas A&M and Florida this season.

Clemson has won four straight meetings against South Carolina, including last year, but the Gamecocks are looking to beat the Tigers for the first time since 2013.

South Carolina and Clemson are set to kick off at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday.
