South Carolina went on the road to face a ranked opponent this past Saturday, and while the Gamecocks lost, their offense had a strong showing.

In a loss to Florida, South Carolina scored 31 points and amassed 386 yards of total offense. Jake Bentley passed for 239 yards and two touchdowns.

But trailing by four points late in the fourth quarter, the Gamecocks couldn’t orchestrate a game-winning drive as they lost, 35-31.

On Tuesday, Bentley reflected on what he thought was a mixed offensive performance against the Gators.

“I think as an offense as a whole it kind of gave us a boost, the confidence to play well,” Bentley told the media. “At the end of the day though, we didn’t win, and we had a chance offensively to move the ball down the field and go score, and we didn’t. That’s kind of the glaring thing for us, where we’ve got to get better. …

“We did a lot of good things, but we’ve got to execute at a high level all the time, not just in spurts. I think it gave us a lot of confidence in some areas, but it also showed we need to improve in others.”

South Carolina finished SEC play with a 4-4 record against conference opponents.

The Gamecocks have three games remaining on their schedule — Chattanooga, No. 2 Clemson and Akron.
