The South Carolina Gamecocks got off to a hot start this season thanks in large part to star WR Deebo Samuel’s big-play ability.

The talented receiver and kick returner scored six touchdowns — three receiving, two on returns and one rushing — before going down with a broken leg.

Though he was originally feared to be out for the year, coach Will Muschamp said on Tuesday that there’s a chance he could make a return to the field before the end of the season:

As you can hear at the 11:30 mark of the above video, Muschamp says Samuel already has the cast off and is doing rehab exercises:

“He’s doing well,” he said. “He’s got the cast off and he’s in the walking boot right now. I know they’re doing the bone stimulation and all those exercises and things. I think he’s coming along well.”

Then, at the 16:45 mark, Muschamp said he’s told trainers that if Samuel is ready to return, he’ll figure out a way for the star playmaker to help the team:

“I just told those guys if we get close, y’all let me know something,” he said. “We’ll figure out a role for him.”

At 3-2, the Gamecocks have fallen to 1-2 in SEC play after last weekend’s loss to Texas A&M. With games against Arkansas and Tennessee before an Oct. 21 bye, Muschamp’s squad has a chance to turn things around a bit.
