North Carolina coach Mack Brown and South Carolina coach Will Muschamp are very familiar with one another. Muschamp was a longtime assistant under Brown at Texas.

Now, they’ll meet on opposite sidelines on Saturday, as the Gamecocks and Tar Heels are facing off in Charlotte.

On Monday, Brown spoke about the Gamecocks. Here’s what he had to say about Muschamp’s squad (via 247Sports):

“They’re always aggressive on defense. With a true freshman quarterback Will is going to put a bunch around the line of scrimmage, blitz him, try to stop the run and hit the quarterback. That’s easy. That’s a no-brainer and Will (Muschamp) is one of the best defensive coaches in the country. He gets that.

“Offensively I would think they try to line up and run the ball against us because they have the two big backs, both of them 215 and 220. With (Tavien) Feaster coming over, the transfer portal has changed things. Feaster plays against South Carolina at Clemson in November and now he’s going to play against Clemson for South Carolina this year. It’s just different than ever before.

“I think they have a really good quarterback. He’s experienced, an older guy, a coach’s kid. (Jake) Bentley has been around a long time. There is a huge receiver, (Bryan) Edwards, No. 89. He’s 6-3, 215 pounds. He’s a guy they are going to go to.

“I think they spread them out and try to run the ball and get us in one-on-one situations and then Bentley is really accurate so he is going to try to get the ball to his big backs on the edge in the passing game and run it up inside and then throw to Edwards. Football is not complicated. People are. We have to figure all of that out.”

Brown had more to say about the Gamecocks later in his presser. Find the full transcript here.
