Wide Receiver U? Brett Favre says 3 of his favorite pass-catchers were Gamecocks
Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre spoke at Will Muschamp’s coaches clinic on Friday at South Carolina, and he had high praise for the NFL wideouts the school has produced over the years.

"3 of the greatest receivers I played with played at South Carolina – Sterling Sharpe, Robert Brooks, Sidney Rice"#SpursUp— Bobby Bentley (@bobbybentley) March 17, 2017
Favre, who played 20 seasons in the NFL, led Green Bay to a Super Bowl in 1997 with the help of Sterling Sharpe and Robert Brooks. Sharpe is No. 3 all-time for USC in receptions (169) and receiving yards (2,497). Brooks is No. 3 in touchdowns (19) and No. 5 in yards (2,211).
It was much later, as Favre’s career was winding down, that he played with Rice in Minnesota (2009-10). Rice played only two years at South Carolina, 2005 and 2006, but holds the school records for receiving touchdowns in a career (23), single season (13) and game (5). Rice is the only top-10 Gamecock in career receptions who played for less than three seasons.
Favre’s quote will almost certainly show up in future South Carolina recruiting material. The Gamecocks are targeting a trio of 247Sports Composite 4-star wide receivers for their 2018 class: Joshua Moore (No. 15 WR), Matthew Hill (No. 28) and Josh Vaan (No. 39).
The gunslinger was also spotted at a Gamecocks practice.
