The third loss in their last four games, the South Carolina Gamecocks (4-6) fell to the Appalachian State Mountaineers (8-1) on Saturday in Columbia, 20-15.

Barring upset victories over both the Texas A&M Aggies and Clemson Tigers, the Gamecocks will miss a bowl game for the first time in Will Muschamp’s four-year tenure.

Having posted a declining win total for the second straight year, Muschamp was asked if he feels he still has the support of the university administration during his Sunday teleconference.

The 48-year-old offered a confident response, via David Cloninger of The Post and Courier (Charleston, South Carolina):

With the loss to the Mountaineers now in the record books, Muschamp is just three games above .500 (26-23) during his time in Columbia.

First establishing himself as an up-and-coming star in the coaching ranks during his time with the Texas Longhorns from 2008-10, Muschamp got his first head coaching job with the Florida Gators in 2011.

Stepping down from his post in Gainesville following the 2014 season, he spent the 2015 season as the Auburn Tigers’ defensive coordinator before joining the Gamecocks in 2016.

Traveling to College Station, Muschamp’s team will look to get back on track against Texas A&M (6-3) on Saturday (7:30PM ET, SEC Network).
