Last year, talented DB Jamyest Williams’s freshman season had its fair share of good moments and plenty of bad moments as well.

However, he’s still a big part of the Gamecocks’ secondary, and he’ll be counted on to contribute in a major way this fall.

But, according to coach Will Muschamp, Williams will be contributing from the safety position instead of the cornerback spot he played last fall (via The State):

“We’re moving him to safety,” Muschamp said. “He can play nickel, he can play multiple spots. But we’ve got to get better at the safety position. We got a little spoiled with Chris and D.J. the last two years, the job they have done for us.”

Obviously, this isn’t a huge position change, but it’s still one that will affect the Gamecocks’ defense.

He’ll have plenty of time to prepare for his new role, though, so he could end up thriving when South Carolina takes the field in 2018.
