South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp is expecting a “heck of a football game” on Monday when Alabama and Georgia finally clash in Atlanta.

Muschamp joined The Paul Finebaum Show on Friday to offer his thoughts on the upcoming College Football Playoff National Championship.

“Well, I think it will be an outstanding game. I think they’re both built very similar,” he said. “You know, Jeremy Pruitt was there (Georgia) two years before Kirby took over as the head coach. So, from a recruiting standpoint, a lot of the same values for what we look for in players had already been recruited to. Kirby obviously inherited some of those guys.”

Muschamp mentioned some of the players that will be critical to either team’s success in the game.

“But I really look at the keys of the game. Jalen Hurts off-rhythm plays,” he said. “He extends plays with his legs and extends plays with his arm. Matchups down the field with (Calvin) Ridley. The two backs (Bo) Scarbrough and (Damien) Harris are good players. The two elite backs that Georgia has. Jim Chaney has done a phenomenal job of forcing guys that don’t tackle well to tackle.”

The Gamecocks’ head coach is prepared to see a low-scoring, defensive battle.

“That to me is going to be critical,” Muschamp said of the defenses. “I think it’s going to be a low-scoring game because I do think these are two of the elite defenses in the country. They are very good up front; they’re very multiple in what they do. They’re not going to face anything they haven’t seen before, because they’re going to face the same things they see in practice everyday.

“So, it ought to be a heck of a football game.”
