What Will Muschamp said after South Carolina held on to beat Vanderbilt
It wasn’t easy, but the South Carolina Gamecocks managed to hold off the Vanderbilt Commodores on homecoming in Columbia.
The Gamecocks had to play well late to earn the victory, but managed to hang on for their sixth victory, meaning they’re now bowl eligible.
However, coach Will Muschamp’s squad has loftier goals this season, so they’ll keep pressing as they prepare to take on an undefeated Georgia team next weekend.
Here’s what Muschamp had to say about Saturday’s big game in his postgame press conference:
On holding off the Commodores late:
Will Muschamp: 'It was a good, hard-fought ballgame. Very proud of our team.'

On a pair of minor injuries suffered Saturday:
Muschamp says Cory Helms (ankle) and Dennis Daley (undisclosed) are fine/should be fine.

On the ground attack finally getting going:
Muschamp happy with run game, 212 yards on the ground: 'That's a huge, marked improvement from where we've been.'

On not being conservative even when running the ball:
Muschamp: 'Just because you run the ball on first down doesn't mean you're conservative.'

On not discussing bowl eligibility before the game:
Muschamp says being bowl-eligible wasn't discussed in the locker room: 'We don't talk about that. It's something we expect.'

On facing undefeated Georgia next weekend:
For Georgia next week — Muschamp says USC will take it as another ballgame. Of course they know how big it is.
