South Carolina was coming off a tough loss to Texas A&M last week, but managed to use a huge defensive effort to pick up a 48-22 victory over Arkansas on Saturday.

The Gamecocks are now 4-2 and still alive in the SEC East race, but it didn’t come easy.

Playing once again without star WR Deebo Samuel, the Gamecocks needed three defensive touchdowns to defeat the Razorbacks.

Here’s what coach Will Muschamp had to say about his squad’s Week 6 performance:

On QB Jake Bentley’s performance:

“I’m glad he’s our quarterback. He’s a gutsy performer. Our guys rally around him.”

On running the ball more effectively:

“It creates balance in your offense. It creates a little doubt in the defensive play-caller.”

On Hayden Hurst’s performance:

“It’s not about plays, it’s about players. Those are just things you think about as a coach.”

On the touchdown just before halftime:

“We wanted to get the first down. We had plenty of time and two timeouts. We had plenty of time.”

On building positive momentum at South Carolina:

“We’ve got to continue to build those recruiting classes together.”

On taking shots down the field:

“We had a lot of one-on-one shots and we wanted to be able to hit those. There were a couple shots we had dialed up outside based on their coverage. That was just a game plan.”
